Green tea is gaining the attention among the consumers around the world over the past years. This tea is made from the leaf buds and dried leaves of Camellia sinensis plant. After drying, is prepared by pan-frying and steaming the leaves. Consumers buy green tea in the form of tea bags, instant mixes, ice tea, and loose leaf, etc. Surprisingly, in 2018, the green tea bags dominated the market with approximately 41.6% share of the total market.

Consumers have started to understand the functional health benefits of it and now they are seeking for this tea as a most desirable alternative option to sugar-laden beverages like traditional tea or coffee. This rising demand is propelling the demand for green tea in the country.

Consumers in developed and developing countries are becoming health conscious these days. Process to make green tea involves neither withering nor oxidation. Some experts state that the consumption of this tea may prevent to control liver cirrhosis, cancer, blood pressure, obesity, and many other chronic diseases. Plus, many dieticians/nutritionists advise its consumption to lose weight as it is composed of bioactive substances such as caffeine and polyphenols that help to break down the fat cells and discharging them into the circulatory tract.

Considering the other benefits, green tea can be consumed by combining other ingredients. Its combination with lemon offers various health benefits due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. With Aloe Vera, it is claimed that this beverage possesses nutrients like amino acids, minerals, vitamins, polysaccharides, and enzymes. Its consumption with cinnamon helps to fight stomach and digestive disorders. Plus, it helps in digestion by enhancing the ability of body to break down food properly and absorb nutrients efficiently.

Many major companies in the industry including TATA Global Beverages, Finlays, Unilever, Nestlé, and Associated British Foods plc. are already dominating the market. As per the research report published by The Insight Partners, the US green tea market is expected to reach at US$ 1,907.03 Million by 2027 with a CAGR of 6.5% during 2020–2027.
