In the era of globalization, many semiconductor companies are experiencing the global expansion of their business. As they are continuously focus on areas such as R&D, Designing, production processes, and promotions, most of the times they lose financial controls. And that’s why it becomes difficult for them to track each and every transaction of their finance.

One such, Amalfi Semiconductor was struggling through the same finance related issues. Amalfi Semiconductor is based in California and it develops a new generation of high-performance radio frequency semiconductors for the cellular handset market.

Previously, Amalfi Semiconductors was not able to match actual physical inventory receipts with invoicing so sometimes vendors used to overbill Amalfi accidentally. A system of daily snapshot inventory-reporting also lack enough support for inventory costing. It also had difficulty to derive booking, billing and backlog information. Plus, Amalfi Semiconductors also faced inability to manage operations for international clients. There was not a systematic process to prescribe purchase order controls, approvals and thresholds.

To handle the finances with accountability, Amalfi Semiconductors was looking for a solution. Joe Whitty, Controller, Amalfi Semiconductor asked Microsoft partner Tensoft a on-site demonstration of Microsoft Dynamics GP. Microsoft Dynamics GP is a business management software which is coupled with Tensoft Fabless Semiconductor Software. After demo, Whitty chose the software saying, ““SAP and Oracle either didn’t provide process inventory costing, were too expensive, or required too much hands-on customization and support.”

Microsoft Dynamics GP provides the four-person finance department and experts in the organization. Their job is to manage the finances and the business. With the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics GP, Amalfi Semiconductor is able to manage its business smoothly. The software not only help to avoid duplicate billing but also its powerful ERP solution increases efficiencies. Implementation showed positive results as Amalfi Semiconductor has attained real cost savings that exceed approximately US $75,000.

The software also reduced manual work and time to complete the tasks. Whitty confirms, “with reporting in Microsoft Dynamics GP, we consolidate our financial statements in five minutes, a process that used to take us a day.”

Along with that, month end closings are more efficient in Microsoft Dynamics GP as per the experiences shared by the finance team at Amalfi finds. “We filter and distill transactional data to help us with reconciliations, and export transactional information into an Excel spreadsheet so that executives can manipulate and analyze the data,” Whitty states.

Now, executives can use data in Microsoft Dynamics GP for better project sales, income, inventory, & billings and gain insights into business performance. In addition, Amalfi is also able to meet regulatory mandates with great ease.

ERP systems enables the staff to complete more work efficiently. Whitty concludes, “With Microsoft Dynamics GP, powerful reporting and analytics tools, and productivity applications from a single software company, we can grow our sales and operations based on real insights into the actual needs of customers. If we had to do it all over again, we’d make the same choice.”
